Bengaluru: Congress leader Chaluvarayaswamy on Monday launched a sharp attack on Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, challenging him to declare his family’s assets and face an investigation into the source of their wealth.
Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru in the presence of Legislative Council member Dinesh Gooligowda and MySugar president C.D. Gangadhar, Chaluvarayaswamy hit back at Kumaraswamy’s allegations against Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Reacting to Kumaraswamy’s question on how D.K. Shivakumar acquired assets worth ₹1,400 crore, Chaluvarayaswamy said Shivakumar had been a businessman from the beginning and politics was his interest.
“Are you ready to declare the assets of your entire family, except H.D. Deve Gowda? Let there be an investigation into how much property you have and how it was acquired,” he challenged.
He further claimed that Shivakumar has details about his political opponents and would reveal them at the appropriate time. He also warned that politics cannot be built only through allegations.
Drawing comparisons with leaders from neighbouring states, Chaluvarayaswamy asked whether Kumaraswamy could win without relying on the legacy of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, citing examples of leaders who built their political careers independently.
On Bidadi Township project
Commenting on the opposition to the Bidadi Township project, Chaluvarayaswamy said farmers’ confidence would be the priority and clarified that the government would not proceed by ignoring their concerns.
He alleged that Kumaraswamy had initiated the project earlier but was now opposing it. He said the government would hold discussions with farmers and move forward only after taking them into confidence.
Chaluvarayaswamy added that the issue would also be discussed in the Cabinet and indicated that there were plans to expand the project towards Mandya and Mysuru in the future.
