Trump Thanks Putin for Russian Diesel Deal, Defends Move Despite Zelenskyy’s Criticism

US president says fuel supplies will help ease domestic prices; agreement marks a shift in Washington’s approach to Russian energy imports

Washington: US President Donald Trump has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for agreeing to supply diesel to the United States and global markets, defending the arrangement despite criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump announced the agreement on Friday following a conversation with Putin, saying Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 metric tonnes of diesel, with additional shipments planned in the coming months. The move is aimed at increasing fuel availability and easing pressure on prices.

Speaking to reporters at the White House before heading to a Republican rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump said the arrangement would benefit American consumers and the wider energy market.

“Huge amounts of oil are coming into our country. We are receiving the diesel we need. I want to thank President Putin for this,” he said.
