Tumakuru: Karnataka Legislative Council Chief Whip Salim Ahmed on Tuesday accused the BJP-led central government of misleading people and failing to fulfil its promises, while alleging that repeated fuel price hikes have increased the burden on common citizens.
Speaking at the “3 Years of Achievement and Service Dedication” convention organised in Tumakuru, Salim Ahmed said the BJP had promised to bring back black money from Swiss banks and deposit ₹15 lakh into every citizen’s bank account before coming to power, but failed to deliver on those assurances.
“Now petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices are being increased continuously. People across the country are suffering because of inflation and fuel price hikes,” he alleged.
He also criticised BJP leaders from Karnataka serving in the Union government, claiming they had failed to resolve long-pending issues such as the Mahadayi and Mekedatu projects.
Highlighting the achievements of the Congress government in Karnataka over the past three years, Salim Ahmed said schemes such as Griha Jyoti, Griha Lakshmi, Annabhagya, Yuva Nidhi and Shakti had become a “ray of hope” for crores of families in the state.
He said the government had given priority to the welfare of farmers, women, youth, labourers and backward communities, while also taking steps to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure and employment opportunities.
“The Congress government is committed to the development of all communities and will continue to strengthen pro-people governance,” he said.
Expressing confidence about the party’s future prospects, Salim Ahmed said the Congress would return to power in Karnataka again in 2028.
