Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that the Centre is committed to identifying and deporting every illegal infiltrator living in the country.
Speaking after inaugurating development projects worth ₹340 crore at Sonipur village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, Shah claimed that illegal infiltration through the Bangladesh border has already begun to decline in West Bengal.
“During the rule of Mamata Banerjee, infiltration was taking place every day. But now, infiltrators have started returning voluntarily,” Shah alleged.
He said steps such as strengthening border security, fencing and setting up detention centres have been initiated. Shah also stated that those who leave the country voluntarily before the identification drive would not face legal action.
The Union minister expressed confidence that many illegal migrants would leave on their own before the verification process begins.
Highlighting the BJP’s political reach, Shah said the party currently governs nearly 80% of the country’s geographical area and described recent political developments in West Bengal as a major achievement for the BJP.
