Tumakuru: Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti and Tumakuru MP V. Somanna has urged the Centre to approve a ropeway project to the historic Madhugiri hill, citing its tourism potential.
During a meeting with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi, Somanna said the hill is a major attraction in the district and could draw significantly more visitors if ropeway connectivity is developed.
He said the project would help put Madhugiri on the national tourism map while boosting local economic activity and employment opportunities.
The minister also sought release of funds for broader tourism development in Tumakuru district and reiterated the request during the meeting. In response, Shekhawat assured that the proposals would be examined and necessary approvals considered.
Somanna added that there are plans to promote a tourism circuit in the region, including Siddhar Betta and Devarayanadurga, alongside Madhugiri in the coming days.
