Mumbai: The much-awaited Malayalam film Drishyam 3 has generated fresh buzz after its release date was postponed to May 21.
Directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal in the lead, the film was initially scheduled to hit theatres on April 2 but has now been delayed due to unspecified reasons.
The film has been shot across locations including Thodupuzha, Vagamon and Ernakulam, with Mohanlal completing his portions in December last year.
The ‘Drishyam’ franchise has been one of Indian cinema’s most successful thriller series, with the first part released in 2013 setting new benchmarks and its sequel in 2021 also emerging as a major hit, raising expectations for the third instalment.
Meanwhile, Pen Studios has announced an investment of ₹100 crore in the project. The investment is being channelled through Panorama Studios in association with Aashirvad Cinemas.
In a social media statement, Pen Studios described the film as “one of India’s most prestigious thrillers” while confirming the new release date.
Producer Anthony Perumbavoor said the decision to make a third part stemmed from the overwhelming response to the earlier films, adding to anticipation around the upcoming release.
