New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the construction of a General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) complex in Amaravati, marking the first such Central government housing project in Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city.
The project, estimated to cost ₹1,234.91 crore, will be developed on a 17-acre site and will provide 1,504 residential units for Central government employees. The housing complex will consist of 11 residential towers offering accommodation ranging from Type-II to Type-VI categories.
According to the government, the project aims to ease the housing burden on Central government employees, improve their quality of life and ensure that officials can reside closer to their workplaces, thereby enhancing administrative efficiency.
The proposed campus will have a total built-up area of over 31.3 lakh sq ft and include parking facilities for nearly 2,000 vehicles. It will also feature civic amenities such as a bank, ATM, post office, crèche, community hall, food court, shopping complex, service centre and guest house.
Emphasising sustainability, the government said the project will be designed in accordance with the latest green building standards and will target a minimum four-star GRIHA rating. The development will incorporate energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures and environmentally sustainable construction practices.
The campus will also be fully accessible to persons with disabilities through a barrier-free design framework.
The project is expected to generate around seven lakh man-days of employment annually during the construction phase and approximately 50,000 man-days each year once operational.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will execute the project through the Central Public Works Department. Officials said preparatory work has already begun, with tender documents currently under preparation.
