Bengaluru: Four candidates, including Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka after no candidates remained in the fray following the withdrawal deadline.
The Congress secured three Rajya Sabha seats, while the BJP won one seat.
Congress candidates Mallikarjun Kharge, Mansoor Ali Khan and Pawan Khera, along with BJP candidate Nagaraju, were declared elected unopposed.
The election authorities announced the results after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended and no contest remained.
Karnataka Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer K.M. Vishalakshi formally declared the candidates elected.
With this, the ruling Congress has strengthened its representation in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka by securing three seats, while the BJP has retained one seat.
