Bengaluru: The delay in allocating portfolios and completing the expansion of the Karnataka cabinet has sparked a fresh political confrontation between the ruling Indian National Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on social media.
The BJP alleged that nearly 20 departments are yet to get ministers and claimed that the delay is affecting governance and slowing down public services.
Questioning the government led by Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, the BJP asked when the remaining portfolios would be allocated, alleging that internal differences within the Congress were holding up the process.
The Congress hit back by citing instances from previous BJP administrations in the state. The party pointed out that when B. S. Yediyurappa became Chief Minister in 2019, the state functioned with a single-member cabinet for nearly a month before other ministers were inducted.
It also recalled that Basavaraj Bommai initially took oath alone as Chief Minister in 2021, with ministerial appointments following later. The Congress further noted that the BJP took several months to appoint a Leader of the Opposition after the 2023 Assembly elections.

“The BJP, which followed a similar course when it was in power, has no moral authority to question the Congress government on cabinet expansion,” the Congress said.
