New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic from August 29 to September 1, with strengthening strategic ties, regional security and India’s engagement with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) high on the agenda.
Modi will visit Tashkent on August 29-30 at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During his State Visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold discussions on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy.
PM to attend 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek
Modi will later travel to Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to attend the 26th SCO Summit, which marks 25 years of the organisation.
The Prime Minister said India will seek to advance its vision for the region based on Security, Connectivity and Opportunity and work with SCO members towards a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism.
He is also scheduled to meet President Zhaparov and other SCO leaders and attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, which celebrates the cultural heritage of Central Asia.
During his Tashkent visit, Modi will also visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, highlighting the cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Uzbekistan.
Modi said the visit would strengthen India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia, deepen its civilisational ties with the region and contribute to the shared goals of peace, stability and prosperity.
