Two Dead, 15 Feared Trapped After Three-Storey Building Collapses in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Two workers were killed and more than 15 people are feared trapped after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Chawri Bazar area of Old Delhi on Thursday morning.

The incident took place around 9.50 am in Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazar Metro Station. Another person sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officials said at least 15 people were suspected to be trapped under the debris. Rescue operations were launched soon after the incident, with multiple emergency response agencies deployed at the site.

A Delhi Fire Services official said the department received a distress call at around 9.50 am. Six fire tenders, along with water supply vehicles and rescue vehicles, were immediately rushed to the location.

Teams from the Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are jointly carrying out rescue operations. Senior officials are also monitoring the situation as emergency personnel work to locate and rescue those feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The collapse has once again raised concerns over building safety in the national capital, particularly in densely populated neighbourhoods with ongoing construction and renovation activities.
