NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of repeatedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings and making walkouts and boycotts part of the party’s political culture.
Shah was addressing a gathering after leading the BJP’s ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ march from Sector 12 to Dayanand Chowk in Karnal, Haryana.
He said Parliament was the highest forum for debate and discussion in a democratic system, but alleged that Rahul Gandhi was not allowing important issues to be discussed in the Lok Sabha.
“Rahul Gandhi, you do not allow Parliament to function, nor do you participate in discussions on important issues. Creating disruptions and boycotting proceedings have become part of the Congress’s political culture,” Shah said.
Accusing the Congress of attempting to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country, the Home Minister warned that the BJP would respond to the party’s protests on every political platform.

“Do you think our 80-year-old democracy will succumb to your tactics? We are people who have fought on the streets. Remember what I am saying: the BJP will respond to you everywhere — in Parliament, state assemblies and villages,” he said.
Shah also reiterated his proposal for a special session of Parliament to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He accused the Congress-led INDIA bloc of attempting to protect illegal immigrants and said the BJP was committed to identifying and removing their names from electoral rolls.
“If you want a responsible discussion, let us debate the issue inside Parliament. Identifying illegal immigrants and removing their names from voter lists is the BJP’s resolve. But the INDIA bloc wants to protect them,” Shah alleged.
The Home Minister also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits, saying people had a right to know about the overseas trips of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
“Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. People have the right to know about your foreign visits,” Shah said.
