Railways Urges Passengers to Stay Alert; Suspicious Activities Can Be Reported on Helpline 139

New Delhi: The Railway Ministry has urged passengers to remain alert and vigilant during travel and report any suspicious activity or anti-social elements through Railway helpline number 139.

The appeal comes after a high-level security review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi amid recent incidents targeting railway property and services.

Union Ministers of State for Railways V. Somanna and Ravneet Singh Bittu, Railway Board Chairman and senior officials from across the country participated in the meeting.

During the review, officials noted that preliminary investigations into several recent incidents, including fire-related cases, indicated the possible involvement of anti-social elements. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is actively investigating these incidents.

The Ministry said prompt action by railway authorities in several cases helped prevent major mishaps.

To strengthen railway security, Indian Railways is intensifying the use of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, drones and CCTV surveillance systems. Intelligence gathering mechanisms at the field level are also being strengthened in mission mode through the Railway Protection Force.

The discussions focused on improving coordination between Railway Board headquarters and field zones, expanding CCTV coverage, strengthening cyber security and deploying AI-based monitoring systems across the railway network.

The meeting also stressed the need for better information sharing between the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police to improve overall security management.
