Mumbai: Veteran actor Anupam Kher has announced his 556th film, Out of Fashion, a Swedish-Belgian co-production that he says has renewed his appreciation for cinema’s ability to transcend language and cultural barriers.
Sharing the announcement on social media platform X, Kher reflected on the saying that “cinema has no language”, admitting that he had only recently begun to understand its deeper meaning while working on a film set surrounded by people speaking a different language.
“A look, a silence, a moment of tenderness — these need no translation,” Kher wrote, noting that emotions such as hope, fear and love connect people despite their differences.
The actor said he felt grateful for the opportunity to explore a new world and discover new facets of himself through the role. He described the character as deeply moving and said the experience had reinforced his belief that every film offers a fresh beginning.
Out of Fashion is directed by award-winning filmmaker Jens Jonsson. Julia Gebauer and Siri Hjorton Wagner are producing the film, while Sunil Munshi has written the story and also acts in it.
The cast also includes Helena Bergström, Bahar Pars and Krista Kosonen.
Thanking the film’s team for bringing the project together, Kher described Out of Fashion as a special film that celebrates the universal language of human emotions. He said stories that come from the heart can speak to audiences across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

A long time ago, I read in a film book, “Cinema has no language.” I heard the words, but I don’t think I truly understood them then. Today, as I find myself on the set of a Swedish-Belgian film, surrounded by people, places and a language different from my own, I feel their meaning.

I feel deeply grateful to be part of a beautiful and tender #OutOfFashion, and I’m thoroughly enjoying a role that has touched me. God has been kind to give me the chance, even after all these years, to step into new worlds and discover something new in myself.
