Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government over the alleged sexual assault case reported from Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district.
In a social media post, Nagendran expressed concern over reports linking ruling party workers to the case and said the incident had raised serious questions about the law and order situation in the state.
The BJP leader alleged that cases involving corruption, bribery and other criminal offences had increased since the TVK came to power. He claimed that the alleged involvement of ruling party members in serious crimes was a matter of concern.
Addressing Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, Nagendran urged the government to focus on governance and public safety and demanded strict action against those involved in criminal activities, irrespective of their political affiliation.
He also questioned the appointment of individuals facing criminal allegations to ministerial positions, arguing that such decisions could send the wrong message to society.
Nagendran said maintaining law and order was one of the government’s primary responsibilities and called for swift and effective action in the case.
The state government has not yet responded to the BJP leader’s remarks.
