New Delhi/Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has urged the Union government to expedite approvals for a series of major infrastructure projects aimed at improving Bengaluru’s urban transport network.
During a meeting in New Delhi with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivakumar discussed pending proposals including the expansion of the Bengaluru Metro, the proposed double-decker corridor, revised cost approvals for Metro Phase-2 and Phase-3A, and the Regional Rapid Rail Transport System (RRTS).
He also pressed for faster clearance of projects under the Urban Challenge Fund, stating that timely approvals are crucial to meet the city’s growing mobility needs.
Shivakumar said the proposed RRTS project, which aims to connect Bengaluru with surrounding growth centres, would significantly reduce traffic congestion and boost regional economic activity.
“These initiatives will help reduce congestion, strengthen connectivity and build a modern, sustainable and future-ready Karnataka,” he said in a post on social media after the meeting.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is prioritising large-scale infrastructure development to improve urban mobility, public transport efficiency and overall quality of life in Bengaluru, one of India’s fastest-growing metropolitan cities.
Officials said that if the Centre clears these proposals, it would mark a major push for the next phase of Bengaluru’s transport transformation, with long-term implications for decongestion and urban planning.
