Baghdad: Iran is ready to engage in dialogue based on mutual respect and reliable guarantees but will not yield to pressure or surrender its sovereign rights, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad.
Araghchi said Tehran rejected coercion, threats and intimidation by foreign powers, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to protecting its people, sovereignty and legitimate interests.
He also revealed that Iran had submitted a seven-day proposal to the United States concerning the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. According to his statement, Qatar is expected to convey the proposal to Washington.

Araghchi said the waterway could be reopened within seven days if the specified conditions were met, adding that the decision rested with the United States.
He maintained that the Strait of Hormuz had been open before attacks by the United States and Israel and said Iran remained committed to ensuring safe navigation through the passage, a vital route for global energy shipments.
The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran’s military operations had targeted US military bases and installations located in countries across the region. He urged regional governments not to allow their territories to be used for attacks against neighbouring countries.
