Tehran: At least 50 people have been killed and over 500 injured in Iran since the latest escalation in the Gulf, Iranian authorities said, as the US launched another round of airstrikes targeting military infrastructure across the country.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation targeted surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage facilities and maritime capabilities using fighter aircraft, drones and naval assets.
The fresh offensive followed an attack on a US military base in Jordan, where two American service members were killed and another remains missing. The latest casualties take the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict escalated on February 28 to 16.
Iran’s Health Ministry said 12 civilians were killed in the past 24 hours, while hundreds of injured people have received treatment. State media also reported casualties from the latest US strikes.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it targeted US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain and warned that countries hosting American forces would face “corresponding responses” if their territories were used for attacks on Iran.
Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei accused the United States of violating the peace memorandum signed in June between President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. Calling Trump’s signature “worthless and invalid”, Khamenei warned that any further US escalation would bring “unforgettable lessons” from Iran.
