Tehran: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has said that the United States has lifted the naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports.
According to Iranian officials, the restrictions had remained in place for nearly two months and were removed ahead of the signing of a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Switzerland.
Takht-Ravanchi said lifting the blockade was one of Iran’s key demands and that the process had started even before the formal agreement was signed.
The development comes amid diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East. Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron welcomed the reported agreement with Iran, describing it as a significant step towards reducing regional tensions.
The leaders said the move could help restore normal shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz, support stability in global oil markets and contribute to regional peace.
Trump also said commercial shipping through the strategic waterway had resumed and expressed confidence that operations would return to full capacity soon.
