New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged IIT Delhi graduates to remain curious, keep learning and develop the courage to find solutions to challenges, saying those who can identify new problems and create new answers will turn difficulties into opportunities.
Addressing the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi, Modi congratulated the graduating students, their parents and faculty members, and said their degrees carry a responsibility to contribute to the country’s development.
The Prime Minister said rapid technological and geopolitical changes were creating a new landscape of challenges and opportunities. He advised students to keep their “learning instinct” alive and stressed that an IIT degree represents the ability to solve complex problems, rather than merely achieving a high CGPA or securing a lucrative placement.
Modi urged the graduates to question things that are accepted without thought and not stop at questioning, but work towards finding solutions. He said many of life’s important challenges would be “out of syllabus” and require people to identify problems that society may have stopped questioning.
Highlighting India’s push towards self-reliance, Modi said the country was working towards economic, technological and industrial self-reliance as the foundation of Viksit Bharat.
He pointed to growing opportunities in space, semiconductor manufacturing, drones, startups, artificial intelligence, data centres, quantum computing, critical minerals, deep-sea exploration and energy security.
The Prime Minister also highlighted initiatives supporting research and innovation, including the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, Anusandhan National Research Foundation and One Nation One Subscription.
Urging graduates not to compare salaries, placements or startup achievements on social media, Modi said, “Life is not a leaderboard; your real race is with yourself.”
