MoD signs ₹661.50 crore contract for BrahMos fire control systems, launchers

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.

The contract was signed on October 6 under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the project has a minimum indigenous content of 68% and is expected to encourage greater participation by Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The project is also expected to generate employment over a period of three years and strengthen India’s maritime security architecture and defence capabilities, the ministry said.

The contract is part of the government’s efforts to promote the indigenisation of advanced military technology and increase domestic participation in defence manufacturing.

The BrahMos system installed on various frontline warships serves as the Indian Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations. According to the ministry, the system can engage both land and sea targets at extended ranges with high precision and at supersonic speeds.
