New Delhi: The Centre has invited nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2027, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, with the submission process remaining open until July 31, 2026.
Nominations for the awards, which will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2027, began on March 15 and can be submitted only through the official Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.
The Padma Awards comprise the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Instituted in 1954, the awards recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements across a wide range of fields, including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, science, engineering, social work, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.
The government said all citizens are eligible for the awards irrespective of race, occupation, position or gender. However, government employees, including those working in public sector undertakings, are generally not eligible, except for doctors and scientists.
As part of its “People’s Padma” initiative, the government has encouraged citizens to nominate deserving individuals, including self-nominations. Special emphasis has been laid on identifying unsung achievers, women, members of weaker sections, SCs, STs, divyang persons and individuals engaged in selfless service to society.
The nomination should include detailed information highlighting the nominee’s exceptional achievements and contributions in the respective field.
