INDORE: RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has urged young people to exercise self-discipline while using mobile phones and social media, stressing that their talent and energy should contribute to nation-building and social development.
Emphasising the importance of family values, Hosabale said that laws alone cannot ensure good behaviour among children. The family environment, school education and society also play crucial roles in shaping their character.
Parents, he said, must lead by example. Adults cannot expect children to reduce their screen time while spending excessive hours on mobile phones themselves.

Self-discipline in digital use
Children and young people should use mobile phones, social media and digital platforms responsibly. Rather than imposing a complete ban, families should encourage self-regulation and healthy habits.
Families should also set aside time in the morning and evening to stay away from mobile phones and spend quality time together. Discussing positive subjects and responding to children’s questions can help develop their thinking and values.
Youth energy should serve society
Hosabale stressed that young people’s talent and energy should not be exploited for violence, unrest or political interests. They should raise their voices against injustice but seek solutions through dialogue and constructive action rather than violence.
He also called upon socially responsible citizens to organise themselves and stand against forces that create unrest and disturb social harmony.
Reservation and Hindutva
Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has maintained that reservation should continue until socially and educationally backward communities receive equal opportunities and social discrimination is eliminated. He also cautioned against using reservation for political gains.
The RSS leadership has described Hindutva as a broader civilisational and cultural concept rather than merely a religious identity. Human values, mutual respect, inclusiveness and service to society form important aspects of this philosophy.
The broader message was that education must go hand in hand with discipline, cultural values and social responsibility, with families and educational institutions playing an equally important role in shaping responsible citizens.
