PM Modi expresses grief over Lucknow fire tragedy, announces ex-gratia

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives in a fire mishap in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families.

In a message, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident. He said rescue operations were underway and that authorities were extending all possible assistance to those affected.

Announcing ex-gratia relief from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), Modi said ₹2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured would receive ₹50,000.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was “anguished by the loss of lives” in the fire mishap and assured that the administration was actively engaged in relief and rescue efforts.

Further details about the cause of the fire and the extent of damage are awaited as authorities continue investigations.
