New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the latest round of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms recommended by the GST Council, saying the measures would make tax administration simpler, more efficient and citizen-friendly.
In a post on X, Modi highlighted recommendations concerning the removal of arrest provisions, greater decriminalisation and simplification of procedures, stating that they would have a positive impact on taxpayers and businesses.
“I welcome the new round of GST reforms approved by the GST Council,” the Prime Minister said.

He identified the key focus areas as faster decision-making, lower compliance costs, automated refunds and a trust-based tax administration.
Modi said the recommendations were in line with the government’s continued efforts to make the GST system more efficient, transparent and accessible to citizens.
The proposed changes are aimed at simplifying compliance procedures and easing the burden on businesses and taxpayers while improving the overall functioning of the GST regime.
