New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed shock and hurt over remarks allegedly made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Patna about the late father of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the Congress leadership of undermining the dignity of political discourse.
In a statement, Singh said political leaders were expected to maintain decorum, particularly when referring to a deceased person. He alleged that disrespectful comments previously directed at the Prime Minister’s family had now reached the Congress’s top leadership.
Questioning the party’s conduct, Singh said ideological differences should not be turned into personal insults or abusive language. He argued that targeting the Prime Minister’s family was not merely an insult to an individual but also undermined the dignity of Indian politics.

“In a democracy, oppose, question policies, criticise the government, but do not violate personal decorum,” Singh said, emphasising that political disagreements should remain focused on policies and governance.
The defence minister further alleged that the Congress was experiencing a decline in both political standing and ideological principles. He said the remarks had hurt the sentiments of millions of people and asserted that the public would respond to what he described as an insult to the Prime Minister’s family.
