New Delhi: Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, cycled 3 km from his residence to Sankalp Bhawan on Tuesday, lending his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for nationwide fuel conservation. His gesture aimed to promote sustainable mobility and underline the importance of responsible fuel usage in the current global scenario.
Speaking to reporters, Sahu said the Prime Minister’s call to revive several Covid-era practices — including work-from-home, online classes, virtual meetings, and reduced consumption of petrol and diesel — was timely and relevant. He pointed out that such steps were in the “larger national interest” and urged citizens to treat fuel conservation as a collective duty.
Sahu stressed that fuel saving is not just an economic requirement but also an environmental responsibility. “Every litre saved contributes to the nation’s long-term interests. At a time when the country is focusing on sustainability and self-reliance, small lifestyle changes can make a meaningful impact,” he said.
Referring to recent measures adopted by the government, Sahu noted that Union ministers and senior leaders have already reduced their vehicle convoys by 50%, following the example set by the Prime Minister. “Leadership through personal action sends a strong message and encourages wider participation,” he added.
Calling for public involvement, Sahu said, “Every pedal towards conservation is a step towards national service, and every drop of fuel saved safeguards India’s future and pride.” He urged citizens to cut down on petrol and diesel usage by opting for public transport, electric buses, cycling, and carpooling whenever possible.
