BENGALURU: Yash-starrer ‘Toxic’ has opened to a strong response at the box office, reportedly grossing more than ₹117 crore in India on its opening day. The film is also said to have crossed the ₹140-crore mark worldwide, making it one of the biggest openers of the year.
A significant contribution reportedly came from the Hindi market, helping ‘Toxic’ secure the sixth spot among the highest day-one grossers in India.
However, the film could not surpass Yash’s own ‘KGF Chapter 2’, which had registered a day-one collection of around ₹127 crore and remains ahead of ‘Toxic’ on the list.
Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2’ continues to dominate the day-one rankings, with an opening of around ₹191 crore. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ follows with ₹138 crore, while ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ and ‘RRR’ occupy the third and fourth positions with reported openings of ₹133 crore and ₹131 crore respectively.
‘Toxic’ is followed in the top 10 by Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and ‘Salaar’, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ and Pawan Kalyan’s ‘OG’.
What makes ‘Toxic’s opening notable is that, unlike several films in the top five, it is not a sequel. The strong opening is being attributed to Yash’s considerable pan-India fan base and the anticipation surrounding the film.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, ‘Toxic’ features Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.
