US-Iran Peace Deal; Promises to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Washington: The conflict between the United States and Iran is nearing an end, with a peace agreement expected to be signed on Sunday, US President Donald Trump has announced.

Trump said the proposed deal would help ease long-standing tensions in West Asia and that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz would be reopened for international shipping after the agreement is signed.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “As soon as the deal is signed, the Strait of Hormuz will be open to all countries.”

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most crucial energy routes, with a significant share of global oil shipments passing through it. The reopening of the waterway is expected to ease pressure on global energy markets.

Addressing Iran’s nuclear programme, Trump said the issue of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile would be taken up after the situation stabilises. He warned that the US would take necessary measures to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Trump also cautioned Tehran against violating the terms of the proposed agreement, saying any breach would have consequences.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the deal expected to have an impact on regional security, global energy supplies and international diplomatic relations.
