Why Conditions for Griha Lakshmi Scheme Now? C.T. Ravi Questions K’taka Govt

Bengaluru: BJP leader and Legislative Council member C. T. Ravi has questioned the Karnataka government’s decision to impose conditions for beneficiaries of the Griha Lakshmi scheme, asking why such restrictions were introduced after the elections.

Speaking to the media, Ravi alleged that the government had made several promises during the election campaign without mentioning such conditions. He questioned why eligibility rules were being brought in now and accused the government of trying to reduce the number of beneficiaries due to financial constraints.

“People know that the treasury is empty. Conditions are being introduced to reduce the number of beneficiaries,” Ravi said, adding that the public would remember the earlier statements made during the campaign.

Criticising the implementation of guarantee schemes, he said that while the government had promised benefits, it had also stopped issuing new BPL cards. He claimed that this had affected eligible families who require access to welfare schemes.

On political representation and ministerial appointments, Ravi questioned whether selective allocation of opportunities could be considered true secularism. He said equal opportunities for all communities should be the basis of social justice.

Raising concerns over fertiliser availability, Ravi referred to earlier statements from the Agriculture Department that sufficient stock was available in the state. He questioned reports of shortages and alleged that urea was being diverted to neighbouring states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

He demanded that the government investigate complaints of black-market sales and ensure adequate fertiliser supply to farmers during the agricultural season.
