Why seek separate meeting with CJI? Kumaraswamy questions Congress leaders

Bengaluru: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday questioned why Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge had sought a separate appointment with the Chief Justice of India (CJI), raising concerns over protocol and the politicisation of constitutional institutions.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy said Congress leaders should be aware of the protocol to be followed when seeking an audience with the head of the judiciary, particularly when the matter involves political issues.

He criticised the Congress for its protests and objections over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the party was creating unnecessary controversy around the process.

Kumaraswamy also criticised the Congress leaders’ activities in Delhi, describing them as a waste of time and arguing that such actions could undermine the democratic system.

Questioning the opposition party’s objections to the SIR exercise, the Union minister said constitutional institutions should not be drawn into political controversies.

His remarks come amid an ongoing political dispute over the electoral roll revision process and the Congress leaders’ request for a meeting with the Chief Justice of India.
