Bengaluru: Abdul Khader, one of the key accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blast case, died of a suspected heart attack while in judicial custody, prison officials said on Friday.
Khader, 60, a native of Virajpet in Kodagu district, had been lodged at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison since 2010. According to officials, his health suddenly deteriorated and he was being shifted to a hospital for treatment when he suffered a cardiac arrest.
He was being taken to Jayadeva Hospital but died on the way, prison authorities said.
His body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination, and family members have been informed.
The case relates to a series of seven low-intensity bomb blasts that struck Bengaluru on July 25, 2008, within a span of about 30 minutes. The explosions triggered panic across the city, killing two people, including a woman, and injuring several others.
The blasts occurred at multiple locations, including near the Madiwala police checkpost and a bus stand in south Bengaluru.
The investigation was carried out by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Karnataka Police, leading to the arrest of several accused. Multiple FIRs were registered and the case remained under trial for years.
