New Delhi: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday said the Central government has ensured sufficient fertilizer availability for Karnataka farmers for the 2026 monsoon (Kharif) season despite global supply challenges.
Responding to allegations by Congress leaders that the Centre was not supplying adequate fertilizer to the state, Joshi said the shortage claims reflected the failure of the state administration to ensure proper distribution.
In a post on social media platform X, Joshi said fertilizer stocks available with Karnataka were higher than the assessed requirement.
He said 5.59 lakh metric tonnes of urea had been assured against the requirement of 3.13 lakh MT till June 10. After sales, the state still had a closing stock of around 3.12 lakh MT, with additional quantities in transit.
For DAP, the Centre had ensured availability of 2.57 lakh MT against the requirement of 1.89 lakh MT, while NPKS fertilizer availability stood at 9.28 lakh MT against the requirement of 4.36 lakh MT, he said.
Joshi said the government had taken proactive measures amid international challenges, including geopolitical tensions and export-related issues from major suppliers, by increasing domestic production and managing imports.
He added that Karnataka had received fertilizer supplies in advance between January and March 2026 to support pre-monsoon stocking, including urea, DAP and NPKS.
The Union Minister alleged that the real issue was not availability but distribution, and accused the state government of failing to prevent hoarding, black marketing and misuse of subsidised fertilizers.
The Centre remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer supply across Karnataka, Joshi said.
