DK Shivakumar likely to be next Karnataka CM; Congress leadership yet to announce decision

New Delhi/ Bengaluru: Political activity has intensified within the Karnataka Congress after chief minister Siddaramaiah tendered his resignation. Discussions regarding the selection of the new chief minister are currently underway at the party high command level in New Delhi.

As widely anticipated, supporters of DK Shivakumar have expressed confidence that he will be chosen as the next chief minister. However, the Congress high command is yet to make an official announcement. While party leaders are understood to have asked Siddaramaiah to step down, no indication has been given so far on who will succeed him.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have left for New Delhi and are expected to hold discussions with the party leadership. Congress leaders have maintained that there is no confusion regarding the process of selecting the new chief minister.

Sources said a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party is likely to be held on Saturday, and the swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister may also take place on the same day.

However, there is also a possibility that the oath-taking ceremony could be held on Sunday, depending on the auspicious timing suggested by Shivakumar’s astrologer.
