Bengaluru: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday allocated portfolios to members of his newly formed cabinet, with senior Congress leader Dr G. Parameshwar being entrusted with the key revenue department while Priyank Kharge was assigned the home portfolio.

The list of portfolio allocations has been forwarded to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot for approval. An official gazette notification is expected to be issued shortly.

Chief Minister Shivakumar has retained the finance department, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), and other portfolios that have not yet been allocated.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar will oversee the revenue department along with sports and youth empowerment. Priyank Kharge has been given charge of the home department and information technology and biotechnology.

Senior leader K.J. George will head the energy and tourism departments, while M.B. Patil has been entrusted with large and medium industries. Satish Jarkiholi will handle the public works department.

Krishna Byre Gowda has been assigned Bengaluru urban development, while Ramalinga Reddy will oversee water resources. K.H. Muniyappa has been given food and civil supplies.

Bairati Suresh will head the transport department, and U.T. Khader has been entrusted with the health portfolio. First-time minister Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah will oversee urban development, while Sharanprakash Patil has been allocated medical education.

Ishwar Khandre has been assigned the rural development portfolio.

The portfolio allocation is seen as an attempt by the Congress leadership to strike a balance between administrative experience, regional representation and social equations in the new government.
