Actor-activist Chetan Ahimsa to launch new political party in Karnataka

Bagalkot: Actor and social activist Chetan Ahimsa on Sunday announced plans to form a new political party in Karnataka, signalling an attempt to carve out a fresh political alternative in the state. The party will be formally launched in Hubballi in January next year, he said.

Addressing a gathering here, Chetan said the proposed outfit aims to bring together organisations working for social justice, Dalits, Bahujans and various pro-people movements under a single platform. “The idea is to unite Dalit and Bahujan groups, along with progressive social movements, to create a party that truly represents the voice of the people,” he said.

Outlining the broad contours of the proposed political platform, Chetan announced 10 key points that would guide the party’s manifesto. He said the focus would be on social justice, equal opportunities, protection of constitutional values and pro-people governance.

He added that details regarding the party’s organisational structure, leadership and a comprehensive manifesto would be unveiled in the coming days.
