Bengaluru: The controversy over the proposed Bidadi Township project has intensified, with Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka launching a sharp attack on the Congress government, alleging that the land acquisition move is aimed at benefiting real estate interests.
Ashok claimed that the government’s decision to issue a final notification for acquiring around 499 acres of fertile agricultural land, despite farmers’ protests for nearly 470 days, has exposed its “anti-farmer” approach.
Taking to social media, Ashok said farmers should not be underestimated and warned that the government would face public anger over the issue.
He alleged that the Bidadi Township project was part of a “real estate agenda” and questioned the urgency behind acquiring land despite strong opposition from farmers.
“After coming to power in 2028, the BJP government will cancel this entire illegal land acquisition process and stand by farmers,” Ashok said.
Launching a personal attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Ashok said, “In your administration, CM does not mean Chief Minister; it has become Commission Minister and Corruption Minister.”
He alleged that the government had earlier faced criticism over the Bengaluru waste management tender issue and was now targeting farmers’ land for commercial interests.
Ashok said the issue was not merely about 499 acres but about the “rights, dignity and future” of farmers, and demanded immediate withdrawal of the land acquisition process.
The Karnataka government has maintained that township development projects are aimed at planned urban growth and infrastructure expansion. The Bidadi Township proposal has become a major political flashpoint between the ruling Congress and opposition BJP.
