Ramanagara: Opposition to the proposed Bidadi Township project has intensified, with farmers announcing a massive protest against the Karnataka government’s land acquisition process.
The state government has initiated the acquisition of land for the township project, which is being projected as a major dream project of Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar.
Farmers have strongly opposed the final notification issued by the government, expressing concern over losing their agricultural land and warning of a major agitation.
At a preliminary meeting held at Raitha Bhavan in the APMC premises in Ramanagara, the Karnataka State Farmers’ Association decided to organise a protest titled ‘Bairamangala Chalo’ on June 22.
As part of the protest, farmers have planned a bike rally and a large procession from BGS Circle in Bidadi to Bairamangala village. Farmers’ leaders said thousands of people are expected to participate.
The protesters demanded that the government immediately withdraw the land acquisition process and reconsider the township project, alleging that it would adversely affect farmers’ livelihoods.
The Bidadi Township proposal has already triggered a political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the government of favouring real estate interests, while the government has maintained that the project is aimed at planned urban development and infrastructure growth.
