Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP on Monday accused the Congress-led state government of creating unnecessary controversy over an alleged fertiliser shortage and attempting to shift the blame on the Centre.
The Opposition party claimed that adequate quantities of fertilisers have been supplied to Karnataka by the Union government and alleged that the state administration has failed to ensure proper distribution among farmers.
According to the BJP, during the January-March period, Karnataka received additional supplies beyond its requirement, including 0.33 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea, 1.29 LMT of DAP and 1.58 LMT of NPKS fertilisers.
The party said the Centre had ensured availability of 5.59 LMT of urea till June 10 against the state’s requirement of 3.13 LMT. It also claimed that 2.57 LMT of DAP was made available against a requirement of 1.89 LMT, with 1.09 LMT currently in stock.

Similarly, the BJP said 9.28 LMT of NPKS fertiliser was ensured against the state’s demand of 4.36 LMT, adding that additional supplies were being provided.
In a post on social media platform X, the BJP alleged that more than 5.6 lakh LMT of fertiliser remains available even after significant sales.
The party accused the Congress government of failing to distribute fertiliser efficiently across districts and alleged irregularities in the supply chain. It claimed that farmers are facing difficulties due to poor management rather than shortage of fertiliser.
The state government has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations.
