Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has stepped up surveillance and precautionary measures at airports, seaports and government health centres following reports of Ebola Virus Disease cases in some African countries.
Officials said the action follows advisories issued by the Union health ministry. While no Ebola case has been reported in the state so far, the health department has been placed on high alert.
The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has instructed district health officers to closely monitor passengers arriving from affected countries. Screening at airports has been intensified and authorities are checking the travel history of international passengers.
Isolation wards and rapid response teams have been kept ready at major government hospitals as part of the precautionary measures.
Health officials said medical staff are also being trained to identify Ebola symptoms and follow infection-control protocols.
