Former Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai Calls for Reclamation of Periyathadampalayam Lake

Tamil Nadu: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has called for efforts to reclaim the Periyathadampalayam lake area and restore it for public use, stressing the need to protect water bodies and strengthen water security in Karur.

Annamalai said he would urge the government to resolve the land transfer issue following correspondence between the district collectors of Karur and Salem. The matter concerns handing over 106 hectares of land in Salem district to the Forest Department instead of the proposed 53.5 hectares.

He said reclaiming water bodies and increasing green cover were essential to safeguarding the future of Karur residents. He also called for a comprehensive project report to explore bringing excess water from the Amaravati river to the region.

Annamalai said efforts would continue to ensure that the Periyathadampalayam lake area could be restored and used for the benefit of the public.

To convey residents’ concerns to the government, he announced plans to conduct a signature campaign in villages surrounding the area.
