Heavy rain batters Mumbai; waterlogging disrupts traffic, IMD issues orange alert

MUMBAI: Heavy monsoon showers lashed Mumbai and neighbouring areas overnight, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life in several parts of the city on Wednesday. Rainfall continued through the morning in Mumbai and adjoining Palghar district, affecting road traffic and daily commute.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai and surrounding regions, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, intense rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph over the next few hours.

Following the weather warning, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety advisories. The civic body also appealed to citizens to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas and to stay updated on weather alerts.
