New Delhi: Acclaimed actor R. Madhavan was conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu in the presence of Madhavan’s family, including his wife Sarita and son Vedant. The emotional moment saw his family applauding proudly as the actor walked up to receive the honour.
Known for his versatile performances across Tamil, Hindi and several other Indian film industries, Madhavan has earned widespread acclaim through a career spanning more than two decades. He was recently seen in Dhurandhar.
Reacting to the honour, Madhavan said he was deeply humbled and grateful to receive the Padma Shri. In a message shared on social media, he thanked the Government of India and expressed special gratitude to the Maharashtra government for recommending his name.
“This is an honour I will cherish for the rest of my life,” the actor said.
Madhavan dedicated the award to his fans, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout his journey. He said the recognition belonged to everyone who watched his films, celebrated his successes and stood by him during difficult times.
The actor added that the award had increased his sense of responsibility and strengthened his commitment to values such as honesty, humility and excellence.
He also dedicated the honour to Indian cinema, his fellow artists and technicians, and his family, whom he credited for being a constant source of support throughout his career.
