Daman: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s healthcare initiatives have delivered significant results, citing sharp improvements in institutional deliveries and child immunisation across the country.
Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹2,970 crore in Daman, Modi said findings from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) reflect the government’s focus on strengthening healthcare services.
“Earlier, a majority of childbirths in India did not take place in hospitals. Today, more than 90% of deliveries are taking place in healthcare institutions,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting progress in child healthcare, Modi credited Mission Indradhanush for boosting immunisation coverage. He noted that before 2014, only around 60% of children in the country were fully vaccinated, while the figure has now risen to nearly 90%.
The Prime Minister also underlined the impact of flagship healthcare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat and Jan Aushadhi Kendras. He said these initiatives have reduced the financial burden on poor and middle-class families by providing affordable treatment and medicines.
Modi said women have been among the biggest beneficiaries of the government’s healthcare initiatives, particularly through improved maternal healthcare services and expanded access to medical facilities.
He added that the expansion of hospitals, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and digital health services has strengthened healthcare delivery across the country, especially in rural and underserved areas.
