London: India and the UK reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening financial markets cooperation, bilateral investment and regulatory coordination at the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue held in London on September 29.
Senior officials from India’s Ministry of Finance and the UK Treasury, along with financial regulators from both countries, discussed capital markets, insurance, pensions, asset management, sustainable finance, fintech and innovation.
India highlighted reforms aimed at facilitating global investor participation and improving overseas access to sovereign and corporate debt. Both sides discussed the role of GIFT IFSC in mobilising international capital and opportunities for cross-border equity and bond listings.
Discussions on insurance and pensions focused on expanding coverage, investment and market capacity. The two sides also explored opportunities in reinsurance and greater cooperation between the London Market and Indian insurers and reinsurers.

India and the UK welcomed continued regulatory cooperation in asset management and discussed the internationalisation of the Indian rupee, recognising London’s role as a major offshore rupee trading hub.
On fintech, India shared its experience in digital public infrastructure, digital payments, digital identity, CBDCs and data exchange frameworks. Both sides stressed responsible innovation and discussed the opportunities and risks posed by artificial intelligence in financial services, including AI-enabled fraud and cybersecurity threats.
The countries reaffirmed support for the G20 Roadmap for Enhancing Cross-Border Payments and discussed improving efficiency and transparency in international transactions.
Both sides also highlighted Vision 2035 and the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, which entered into force on July 15, 2026.
