Washington: Former United States Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has resigned from her post.
The 45-year-old former Democratic Congresswoman from Hawaii was appointed as Director of National Intelligence by US President Donald Trump last year. She has now announced her exit from the Trump administration.
Tulsi Gabbard shared her resignation letter on the social media platform X and thanked President Trump for giving her the opportunity to lead the National Intelligence Agency over the past one-and-a-half years. She stated that her resignation will take effect from June 30, 2026.
I am deeply grateful for the trust President Trump placed in me and for the opportunity to lead @ODNIgov for the last year and a half.

Explaining the reason behind her decision, Gabbard said her husband Abraham had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
“My husband faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. I must step away from public service to stand beside him and provide my full support,” she said.
Gabbard also emotionally noted that she could not leave her husband alone during such a difficult period after he had stood by her side throughout their 11-year marriage.
Meanwhile, President Trump described her resignation as unfortunate and praised her service during his administration.
The Trump administration announced that Aaron Lucas, currently serving as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, will take charge as acting director.
