Bengaluru: The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved several important projects related to health, education, irrigation and infrastructure during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said.
The Cabinet approved the conversion of Rs 6 crore, including working capital loan and interest provided to NGEF (Hubballi), along with an additional Rs 10 crore interest-free loan into equity.
Approval was given for the construction of 50-bed Mother and Child Care (MCH) hospitals at Shahapur in Yadgir district and Devadurga in Raichur district at a total cost of Rs 38 crore.
The government also sanctioned Rs 22 crore for purchasing laboratory equipment and RD kits for urban primary health centres, community health centres and Namma Clinics.
The Cabinet approved setting up petrol pumps and sales outlets inside central prisons in Bengaluru, Dharwad, Belagavi and Ballari through IOCL, HPCL and BPCL.
A sum of Rs 90 crore was approved for new machinery and equipment in 32 Government Tool Room and Training Centres (GTTCs).
The Cabinet also cleared storm water drain works worth Rs 20 crore in Kanakapura under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund.
In another decision, 17.35 acres of Mysuru Development Authority land was handed over to the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department.
Administrative approval was granted for a 200-bed super speciality hospital at Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
The Cabinet also approved the Rs 182.70 crore Matamari Veerabhadreshwara Lift Irrigation Project in Raichur district, which will provide irrigation facilities to 8,320 hectares.
Further, approval was given for purchasing pre-school education kits for 69,922 Anganwadis at a cost of Rs 20.98 crore.
The government also cleared a Rs 15 crore project to provide residential coaching for NEET, JEE and CET examinations to 500 backward class students pursuing PUC education.
The Cabinet additionally approved advance procurement worth Rs 802 crore under the Asian Development Bank-assisted Karnataka State Higher Education Transformation (KSHET) project.
Retired Justice P.N. Desai has been appointed Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission, H.K. Patil added.
