New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India has directed the development of vehicle repair and puncture repair facilities at Wayside Amenities (WSAs) along national highways and expressways to improve commuter convenience and road safety.
The directive was issued through National Highways Logistics Management Limited, NHAI’s wholly owned subsidiary, which has asked its field offices to advise WSA operators to prioritise setting up these facilities at the earliest.
Officials said the move comes amid growing demand for vehicle repair and emergency assistance services on major highway corridors. The facilities are expected to help motorists and freight operators deal with breakdowns and punctures quickly, reducing delays, inconvenience and safety risks during travel.
NHLML is developing a network of modern Wayside Amenities under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Existing agreements with concessionaires already permit the establishment of vehicle repair and puncture repair shops in addition to mandatory facilities.
The WSAs are being developed as integrated service hubs offering essential amenities for commuters and commercial vehicle operators. Authorities said the addition of repair services would further strengthen highway infrastructure and enhance the overall travel experience.
The initiative is part of NHAI’s broader effort to create safer, user-friendly and world-class highway corridors while supporting the growing needs of road users and the logistics sector across the country.
