Washington: The United States has eased select economic sanctions on Iran, allowing exemptions for the production, sale and distribution of Iranian crude oil and petroleum products following recent US-Iran talks held in Switzerland.
According to an order issued by the US Treasury Department, the relaxation covers sanctions related to crude oil, petrochemicals and refined petroleum products and will remain in effect until August 21, 2026. Officials said the move is part of confidence-building measures emerging from the bilateral peace discussions.
Iranian officials said several key issues were discussed during the two-day talks, including the ceasefire in Lebanon, the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad and the resumption of oil exports.
