New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices have been increased by around ₹3 per litre across the country, with oil companies announcing revised fuel rates that came into effect immediately on Friday morning.
In New Delhi, petrol prices rose from ₹94.77 to ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel increased from ₹87.67 to ₹90.67.
In Bengaluru, petrol prices climbed from ₹102.90 to ₹106.17, and diesel from ₹90.98 to ₹94.10 per litre.
Fuel prices in Kolkata rose to ₹108.74 for petrol and ₹95.13 for diesel. In Mumbai, petrol is now priced at ₹106.68 and diesel at ₹93.14, while in Chennai, petrol has increased to ₹103.67 and diesel to ₹95.25.
India had so far avoided increasing fuel prices despite tensions in the Middle East, rising crude oil costs and global economic uncertainty. However, oil companies have now revised rates upward following continued pressure in international markets.
The hike has also triggered political debate, coming shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to conserve fuel and reduce unnecessary spending, including gold purchases.
